Fixed deposit rates, August 2026 — audited

Pick your amount and tenure and watch the market re-rank. We re-audited 25+ banks and finance companies from their official pages (research cut-off 4 August 2026) and split the market into honest lanes — because the highest headline is often not the best deposit. The August story: the clean-rate market ROSE on 1 August — RHB’s branch 12-month 1.65% p.a. is the new market leader (July’s best clean 12-month was 1.45%), with CIMB’s online 1.55% the best without a branch visit. Offers whose July windows closed with no published successor are flagged until their August rates publish.

A newer snapshot is available: fixed deposit rates — September 2026. The market rose across the board on 1 September (best clean 12-month now 1.70%, three banks at 2.00% for 6 months); this page is kept as an archive.

What changed since July

  • The clean-rate market ROSE on 1 August. RHB lifted its Personal FD to a branch 12-month 1.65% (6-month 1.60%) — the new market leader — and CIMB raised its online Personal rate to 1.55% (9m/12m). The best clean 12-month is now 1.65% (RHB branch) / 1.55% online, up from 1.45% in July.
  • Premier tiers rose too: RHB Premier 12-month to 1.75% (from 1.55%), CIMB Preferred to 1.60%. Citibank is running a standout 6-month 2.00% for new Citigold funds (relationship required).
  • August promos that were 'unconfirmed' at the July cut-off are now published: UOB (1–31 Aug, 12m 1.30%, flat), HSBC (to 31 Aug, personal rates nudged up), OCBC 360 savings added a new save-bonus (see the savings page).
  • Hong Leong Finance nudged its standard promo up (12m 1.35→1.45%); its 4/5-month 1.50% digital promo continues. Bank of East Asia lifted its homepage rate to 1.50% (6/12m, from 1.45% in July). Maybank added a branch-only special promo at 6m/12m 1.55% — above its 1.45% standalone rate.
  • BOC's last weekly bulletin (27 Jul–2 Aug) held the low-minimum 1.50% (6/9/12m from S$500), but no bulletin covering the current week is posted yet — confirm in-app. SBI (6m 1.50%), ICBC (29 Jul sheet), Sing Investments, Singapura Finance and DBS/POSB board rates are unchanged.
  • MariBank's 2.88% new-user 1-month promo expired (July sign-ups only) and has left the board. Standard Chartered's July time-deposit promo lapsed on 28 Jul with no August successor published (re-confirmed 4 Aug). HL Bank withdrew its 12-month 1.55% earmark bundle — its new clean promo tops out at 6m 1.55% with no 12-month rate. Citi's investment bundle went tiered: 3.00% Citigold / 3.50% CPC (July: flat 3.50%).

The catches behind the big headlines

Snapshot verified 4 August 2026. Rates change without notice — the rate confirmed in the bank’s app, branch or placement confirmation is the one that binds. Interest figures are simple approximations; banks’ day-count conventions differ.

Deposit insurance in one minute

  • S$100,000 per depositor per bank — combined across savings, current and fixed deposits at that institution, not per account.
  • Finance-company deposits (Singapura Finance, Hong Leong Finance, Sing Investments) are covered under the same SDIC scheme where the company is a Scheme member.
  • Foreign-currency deposits and investment products are not covered.
  • Holding more than S$100,000 at one bank can still be reasonable — but the excess is an unsecured exposure, so make it a conscious choice.

Quick answers

What is the best fixed deposit rate in Singapore in August 2026?The best clean standalone SGD fixed deposit rate for August 2026 is 1.65% p.a. for 12 months at RHB (branch placement, min S$20,000; the RHB mobile app pays 1.55%). Without a branch visit, CIMB pays 1.55% online for 9 or 12 months (min S$10,000). For 6 months, RHB branch pays 1.60%, and Maybank (branch special), HL Bank (online) and CIMB all pay 1.50–1.55%. Bank of China's app has shown 1.50% from just S$500, but its rate sheet is re-issued weekly — confirm in-app.
What happened to July's 1.55% fixed deposit rate?Singapura Finance withdrew its market-leading 1.55% (12/13-month) promotion in late July 2026. But the market moved past it on 1 August: RHB raised its branch 12-month rate to 1.65% p.a. and CIMB its online rate to 1.55%, so August's best clean rates are higher than July's, not lower.
Are high fixed deposit headline rates like 8.08% real?Headline rates such as DBS 8.08%, Citi 3.00–3.50% or Maybank 1.65% are not clean SGD fixed deposits. They require foreign-currency deposits, investment or insurance purchases, or a lower-rate linked savings balance. On total committed capital most resolve to around 1.5% or less, or carry product costs that exceed the extra interest — Maybank itself publishes its 1.65% bundle's effective rate as 1.50%.
Is my fixed deposit protected in Singapore?SGD fixed deposits are covered by the Singapore Deposit Insurance Corporation (SDIC) up to S$100,000 per depositor per Scheme member, aggregated across your savings, current and fixed deposits at that institution. Finance-company deposits are covered where the company is a Scheme member; foreign-currency deposits are not covered.
What happens if I withdraw a fixed deposit early?Premature withdrawal of a Singapore fixed deposit commonly results in no interest or sharply reduced interest, and some promotions require the deposit to be held to maturity to earn the advertised rate. Always check the early-withdrawal terms before placing funds.

Rates are a point-in-time snapshot verified 4 August 2026from official institution pages (Maybank and DBS/POSB board rates re-verified manually in a browser the same day); campaigns change weekly and some banks show the binding rate only in-app or at placement. Offers whose July windows closed before 1 August are flagged “verify at placement” until their August rates publish; offers that could not be verified on an official page are excluded. This is market research for education and comparison — not a recommendation or an invitation to place deposits. Confirm the live rate and terms with the institution before placing funds.
