Singapore broker fees, compared the honest way

“Zero commission” rarely means zero cost. This comparison reads every broker’s official fee schedule — commission and platform fee, minimums, custody model, GST treatment and whether the FX spread is even published — then computes what yourtrading pattern actually costs per year. Standard pricing only: promos and limited-time waivers are excluded, and anything we can’t verify on an official page is marked “not published” instead of guessed.

What would your trading actually cost?

Broker charges only (commission + platform fee), normalised to include 9% GST where fees are published ex-GST · assumes ~40 shares per order for per-share pricing · US regulatory pass-throughs excluded (near-identical across brokers).

The four things that decide your real cost

1. Commission vs platform feeSeveral brokers advertise low or zero “commission” but charge a comparable platform feeper order — Longbridge’s “lifetime $0 commission” still costs 0.03% (SGX) or US$0.005/share in platform fees. Compare the all-in broker charge.
2. CDP vs custodianCDP-linked accounts (shares in your own name) cost ~0.18–0.28% with ~S$25 minimums; custodian accounts run 0.02–0.12% with sub-S$2 minimums. That structural choice moves your costs more than any broker-vs-broker gap.
3. FX is the hidden costFunding US trades from SGD means a currency conversion — and most brokers don’t publish that spread. Among those that do: IBKR charges 0.002% (min US$2) or ±0.03% auto-convert; Saxo up to ±0.25%. On a S$10,000 conversion that’s the difference between ~S$3 and ~S$25 — sometimes more than the commission itself.
4. GST and dated waiversMost fees are quoted before 9% GST (DBS Vickers quotes GST-inclusive minimums — mind the comparison). And a “waived” fee with a date on it (POEMS custody until Dec 2027, Tiger custody “until further notice”) is a condition, not zero.

US trades also carry regulatory pass-throughs charged by all brokers: SEC fee 0.00206% on sells (from Apr 2026) and FINRA TAF US$0.000195/share on sells — plus exchange/clearing fees at some brokers.

Quick answers

What is the cheapest broker in Singapore? It depends on your trading pattern, not a single ranking. For US stocks, several MAS-licensed brokers publish US$0 commission (Webull, moomoo charges a US$0.99 platform fee, POEMS Cash Plus, IBKR Lite), but per-share platform fees, FX conversion spreads and minimums change the real cost. For SGX stocks, custodian accounts cluster around 0.02%–0.12% with sub-S$2 minimums, while CDP-linked accounts typically charge 0.18%–0.28% with about S$25 minimums.
What is the difference between a CDP account and a custodian account? With a CDP-linked account your SGX shares are held in your own Central Depository account in your name — you keep them if the broker fails, and you receive company mail directly. With a custodian account the broker holds shares on your behalf, which is cheaper (typically 0.02%–0.12% commission vs 0.18%–0.28%) but adds broker counterparty considerations and sometimes custody or transfer-out fees.
Why do zero-commission brokers still cost money?Three ways: platform fees (a separate per-order or per-share charge that replaces the commission line), FX conversion costs when you fund US trades from SGD (most brokers do not publish this spread; among those that do, published costs range from about 0.002% to ±0.25%), and exchange or regulatory pass-through fees. Always compare the all-in cost, not the commission line.
Do broker fees in Singapore include GST?Usually not — most brokers publish fees excluding GST, and 9% GST is added on the commission and platform fee. DBS Vickers is a notable exception that quotes GST-inclusive minimums. Our calculator normalises all plans to GST-inclusive costs so they compare fairly.
Which brokers let me invest my SRS or CPF funds?Bank-linked and traditional brokers typically support SRS and CPFIS investing — DBS Vickers states CPF and SRS support explicitly on its rate card. Most of the newer fintech brokers (moomoo, Tiger, Webull, IBKR, Longbridge) do not support SRS or CPF stock investing. Check the broker's official page before funding.
