Every September FD promo, ranked top to bottom

The deposit market rose across the board on 1 September — 13+ of the 24 offers we track moved up and not one fell. Three banks now pay 2.00% for 6 months, but only one of them will take your money without a private-banking relationship. Below: every publicly verifiable SGD fixed deposit promo, ranked by its best verified rate, with the minimum, the window, the catch, and the official bank link — audited 1 September 2026from the banks’ own pages.

The podium — three ways to win this month

Best rate anyone can get: Citibank 2.00% (6m)Open to new AND existing customers with fresh funds from S$5,000, through 30 Sep — in August this needed a new Citigold relationship. Citibank’s official page.
Best clean 12-month: CIMB 1.70%Online, min S$10k, effective 1 Sep — the new market leader after RHB held at 1.65%. Official page.
Best low minimum: GXS 1.75%From just None in the mobile app (12-month) — the sheet re-issues weekly, so the in-app quote is binding. Official bulletin.

Three audits, one direction — the rate trend

The best cleanrate — no relationship, no bundle, no new-customer gate — in each of our monthly audits. July’s market wobbled, August repriced upward, September accelerated: the 6-month leader jumped to 2.00% when Citibank opened its promo to everyone.

September’s 6-month figure is Citibank’s 2.00% promo (fresh funds from S$5,000, to 30 Sep); the 12-month line is Singapura Finance → RHB → CIMB. Each point is that month’s audited snapshot — July, August, September.

The full ranking — all offers, best rate first

Ranked by each offer’s highest verified rate at any tenure. Lane labels matter: a premier rate needs a relationship (often S$200k+), a bundle rate hides a lower blended return, and new customer offers are one-time. Clean offers are the ones to benchmark everything else against.

Read the ranking like an adviser — the five catches

  • Citi 6-month 2.00%Now genuinely open — but confirm the fine print. September's page opens the 2.00% to new AND existing customers with fresh funds from S$5,000 — in August it needed a new Citigold relationship. That makes it the highest published 6-month rate anyone can reach. It is still a promo window (to 30 Sep) on fresh funds; confirm at placement that no relationship tier applies to your case.
  • Three banks at 2.00%Only one of them is open to everyone. StanChart's 2.00% needs Priority Private status (Personal gets 1.70%), HSBC's 2.00% needs Premier Elite. Citibank's 2.00% is the one published for ordinary customers from S$5,000 — the other two are relationship rates.
  • BOC 1.70% from S$500Genuine — but re-priced every week. Bank of China's mobile-app bulletin (31 Aug–6 Sep) pays 6-month 1.70% and 12-month 1.65% from just S$500 — the market's best low-minimum rates. The sheet is re-published WEEKLY; the in-app quote at placement is the only binding rate.
  • Maybank 1.65%Maybank's own blended figure: 1.50%. Every S$10,000 of the bundle FD requires S$1,000 earmarked in a savings account earning ~0.05%, locked for the full tenure. Maybank itself publishes the effective rate: 1.50% on 12 months — now well below CIMB's clean 1.70% online.
  • Citi up to 3.50%The sales charge can exceed the FD gain. The two-month investment-bundle rate stays tiered: 3.00% for Citigold, 3.50% only for Citigold Private Client; existing funds earn just 1.40%. It needs qualifying investments whose sales charges can exceed the extra FD interest, and market risk stays with you.
  • DBS 8.08%USD deposit + wealth purchase, closed club. A two-month US-dollar FD requiring an investment or insurance purchase with fresh funds — restricted to Treasures clients who joined before 1 July 2026. FX risk applies and foreign-currency deposits are not covered by SGD deposit insurance. Not an SGD FD at all.

The one-line takeaway: for 6-month money, Citibank’s open-to-everyone 2.00% is the September rate to beat (mind the fresh-funds condition and the 30 Sep window); for 12-month money it’s CIMB’s 1.70% online — or BOC’s 1.65% if you’re starting from S$500. Before locking anything, check the current T-bill cut-off and the SSB ladder — government paper beats several rows of this table with no promo window at all, and the right savings account may pay comparably with no lock-in.

Quick answers

What is the best fixed deposit promotion in Singapore in September 2026?Ranked by headline rate: Citibank pays 2.00% p.a. for 6 months — and unlike August, September's offer is open to new AND existing customers with fresh funds from S$5,000 (through 30 September). Standard Chartered (2.00%) and HSBC (2.00%) match it but only for Priority Private and Premier Elite clients respectively. For 12-month money, CIMB's online 1.70% (min S$10,000, effective 1 September) is the best clean rate, and Bank of China's app pays 1.65% from just S$500.
Which fixed deposit has the lowest minimum deposit?Bank of China's mobile-app promotion runs from just S$500 and currently pays the market's best low-minimum rates: 1.70% for 6 months and 1.65% for 12 months (bulletin effective 31 August–6 September; the sheet is re-issued weekly, so the in-app quote at placement is the binding rate). GXS's Boost Pocket has no stated minimum and pays 1.75% on a 12-month lock, though it is a savings-account pocket rather than a bank FD.
How is this ranking ordered?By each offer's highest published rate at any tenure, verified on the institution's official page on 1 September 2026 — with minimum deposit as the tie-breaker. We separate clean offers from new-customer, premier-relationship and bundle offers, because a 2.00% rate behind a S$250,000 relationship is not the same product as a 1.70% rate anyone can place online. The catch column is part of the ranking, not a footnote.
Do fixed deposit promotions require fresh funds? Many do. 'Fresh funds' means money not already held at that bank — typically transferred in from another bank, and internal transfers don't qualify. In September's table, Citibank, StanChart, HSBC, UOB, OCBC, ICBC and most finance-company promos require fresh funds; CIMB, RHB and Maybank's standalone rates do not. Each row's catch notes the condition.
Are these promotional rates guaranteed until month-end?No. Some publish explicit windows (UOB 1–30 Sep, StanChart 28 Aug–30 Sep, Citibank and HSBC to 30 Sep, BOC new-to-bank to 13 Sep), but banks can and do reprice mid-month — Bank of China re-issues its sheet weekly. The binding rate is always the bank's quote at placement. We re-audit monthly and flag offers whose windows lapsed without a successor.
Is my fixed deposit protected by deposit insurance?SGD deposits at SDIC Scheme members — including the finance companies in this ranking (Hong Leong Finance, Singapura Finance, Sing Investments) — are insured up to S$100,000 per depositor per institution, aggregated across your accounts there. Foreign-currency deposits are not covered, which is one reason USD 'FD' bundles are excluded from this ranking.

Official sources — every bank in this ranking

Rates are a point-in-time snapshot verified 1 September 2026from official institution pages (Maybank and the Bank of China weekly bulletin re-verified manually in a browser; DBS/POSB board rates carried from 4 Aug with a verify flag). Promotional windows close and rates change without notice — the binding rate is the bank’s quote at placement, and offers we could not verify on an official page are excluded. This ranking is market research for education and comparison — not financial advice, a recommendation, or an invitation to place deposits. Deposit insurance: S$100,000 per depositor per SDIC Scheme member.
