Prudential term life, researched in depth

Two adviser-sold term plans on sale today: a flexible long-horizon chassis with a deep rider ecosystem, and a simplified-underwriting plan for people with existing conditions. Research based on public materials accessed 2026-07-14.

Prudential's adviser-sold term lineup centres on two current products: PRUActive Term and PRUVital Cover.

PRUActive Term is the flagship: very long policy and premium terms (cover framed up to age 100), an Incremental Sum Assured feature that raises cover 1–10% a year without fresh medical evidence, and the richest rider ecosystem (critical-illness and premium-waiver layers).

PRUVital Cover is the niche plan for people with certain existing conditions — Type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, high BMI — using simplified underwriting with no medical exam, in exchange for stricter pre-existing-condition rules.

Prudential also has a long tail of legacy term plans (PRUTerm Basic, Renewable, Ascend, Vantage, PRUMortgage) that are no longer on its current term-life page — covered at the bottom of this page.

2026Term-life page lists PRUActive Term, PRUVital Cover plus two DIRECT (DPI) plans; legacy PRUTerm family fully off-page.

Underwriting posture

  • Adviser-sold plans (PRUActive Term) go through full financial and medical underwriting; Prudential may reject an application or charge a higher premium.
  • Prudential's forms track health, occupation, financial status, smoking status, hazardous activities and prior applications accepted on special terms — those are the factors most likely to change price or terms.
  • PRUVital Cover deliberately skips the medical exam (simplified underwriting) — the trade-off is the stricter 12-month pre-existing-condition rule.
  • Prudential may seek medical reports and charge for check-ups; disclosures are made under Singapore's utmost-good-faith framework. Be aggressively accurate — incomplete disclosure on PRUVital Cover can void the safety the plan exists to provide.
  • Retail financial-underwriting thresholds (income multiples that trigger payslips/NOA/CPF evidence) are not published — unspecified publicly.

Claims & servicing

  • Death claims: policy numbers, deceased details, death details on Prudential's claim form.
  • Terminal-illness claims: symptom onset, first consultation date, prior similar illness, employer details. Terminal illness is defined as a condition highly likely to lead to death within 12 months, agreed by Prudential's appointed doctor.
  • Disability and crisis-cover claims use dedicated forms with condition-specific attachments (e.g. CT/MRI results for stroke-type claims, specialist reports for CI). Expect documentary medical corroboration, not just a diagnosis label.
  • Complaint handling (Prudential's Fair Dealing commitment): acknowledgement within 2 business days, written response within 20 business days, interim updates every 14 business days, and escalation to FIDReC if unresolved.

Which plan fits which buyer

Buyer expecting rising responsibilities who wants richer rider architecture
PRUActive Term

Long-term flexibility, incremental sum assured without new medicals, broader CI/waiver layer

Buyer with diabetes / high BP / cholesterol / high BMI who may struggle with ordinary underwriting
PRUVital Cover

Simplified underwriting and no medical exam — with more explicit pre-existing-condition limitations

Buyer who mainly needs a mortgage extinguished, not income replaced
PRUActive Term (sized to the loan)

Prudential's dedicated mortgage-term plans are legacy; a term sized and timed to the loan does the same job

Review & complaint signals

Expert commentary

Local commentary frames PRUActive Term as a customisable pure-protection chassis (not a savings product). One review claims a conversion privilege without re-underwriting — unverifiable in Prudential's current public materials, so treat as unconfirmed.

Consumer reviews

Plan-specific public review density is low; Seedly still lists Prudential products, indicating ongoing consumer interest. Treat platform reviews as anecdotal, not representative.

Complaint signal (weak)

Trustpilot shows 1.7/5 from just 18 reviews for Prudential Singapore — a small, uninvited sample clustered around servicing friction and claims/contact routing, not plan value. Weak-quality signal.

Governance signal (positive)

Published complaint-handling timelines (2-day acknowledgement / 20-day response / 14-day interim updates) with an explicit FIDReC escalation route.

About premiums

Prudential's product-design transparency is better than its public pricing transparency. Adviser-sold term pricing is quotation-based and there is no public rate table. Treat any public price point as directional only — a licensed adviser can pull a fresh Prudential policy illustration with your exact age, smoker status and underwriting profile, and apply any live first-year campaign discounts.

Get Prudential term premiums priced properly

An adviser can help you:

  • Pull a live Prudential policy illustration for your exact age, smoker status and health profile
  • Apply any live first-year campaign discounts, and decide honestly whether you need riders at all
  • Stress-test exclusions and disclosure requirements before you sign, not at claim time
